Get Out In Nature!
Spend time with your favourite people, and connect with the natural world.
Get out in nature!
Being in nature is fun and good for our health.
It is also a great way for families and friends to spend time together! Here are some ways you can connect with nature:
Nature Walks
You can search for your nearest park or nature reserve, and find interesting plants, animals and insects. Ask your family if you can find a field guide online or in the local library to help identify them!
Picnics
Pack a yummy lunch with snacks and find a scenic spot. Take a ball with you and play outdoor games like frisbee or catch.
Hug a tree!
Research shows spending time around trees is good for your health and when you hug a tree you release the love hormone! Find a tree in the park and give it a squeeze (and hang your birdfeeder you made earlier!)
Nature Scavenger Hunt
Together, write a list of stuff to find in nature - like flowers, rocks or feathers. Explore your neighborhood or local park, and take photos or sketches of what you find.
Talking about this with your friends and family…
“Did you know that spending time in nature can help reduce stress and improve our mood? Can we talk about how it makes us feel?”
“Nature is full of interesting things to discover! Can we go on a nature walk together and learn about the plants and animals we see?”
“There are so many outdoor activities to try! Can we make a list of things we’ve never done before and choose one to do together?”
“I’m passionate about protecting the environment, and I think spending time in nature can help us appreciate its beauty. Can we talk about ways we can help take care of the planet?”
