Eat What You Grow
Eat delicious things, and be kinder to the planet too!
Eat What You Grow!
One of the best things you can do for the planet and for your health - is being mindful about what you eat and growing your own food! Here are some tips to get you started:
Meat-Free Mondays
Every Monday, try to eat meals without any meat. This can help reduce your carbon footprint and is also a great way to try new and delicious vegetarian recipes. You can start with simple meals like veggie pasta, salads, or currys.
Eat Less Beef
Eating less beef is another way to help the environment. Cows produce a lot of methane, a greenhouse gas. Try swapping beef for other proteins like chicken, fish, or plant-based options like beans, lentils, or tofu.
Growing Food in Your Home/Windowsill
You don’t need a big garden to grow your own food. You can start small by growing herbs or vegetables on your windowsill. Here are some easy plants to grow indoors:
- Herbs: Basil, mint, and parsley
- Vegetables: Cherry tomatoes, lettuce, and radishes
- Fruits: Strawberries
Talking about this with your friends and family…
To fight the climate crisis, we have to work together! Having conversations with your friends and family is a great way to raise awareness and act together. Here are some useful questions that could start an interesting discussion:
“I’ve been learning about how eating less meat can help the environment and help us be healthier. Can I tell you more about it?”"
“I love animals so much, and I feel sad thinking about them being hurt. Can we talk about eating more plant-based foods?”
“There are so many cool vegetarian recipes out there from many cultures around the world. Would you like to try making one with me?”
“I think cooking together can be fun. Can we try making a vegetarian dish as a family activity?”
