Be like BirdGirl!

There are a lots of amazing birds in the UK. And they’re not just cool, when birds travel they take seeds with them they have eaten and disperse them via their droppings. They bring plants back into the ecosystem and even spread seeds across different countries they fly to!

You can encourage birds to visit your area, and help them out by feeding them. Here are some ideas to get to know birds better:-

  1. Make your own bird feeder out of an apple: Creating a bird feeder is a fun way to help birds find food, especially in the winter. You can tie it to any tree you might see in a garden, the park, at school or on the street! Here’s how you can make one just using an apple, sunflower seeds, some string (and a grown up to help you!).

  2. Make a winter wreath for birds: Create a festive and edible wreath for birds to enjoy during the holiday season!

  3. Spot some local birds: Birdwatching is a wonderful way to learn about nature and enjoy the outdoors. Get a journal and keep track of what you see! Here are some little friends to look out for.

“Bird watching could be a fun activity for us to do as a family. Can we plan a trip to a park or nature reserve to look for birds?”

“What if we built a bird feeder together to attract more birds to our yard? It would be fun to see who visits.”

“Bird watching can make us more aware of environmental issues. Can we learn about ways to protect birds and their habitats?”
